JACC: Home-based Cardiac Rehab just as effective as Center-based

At Recora, we are dedicated to transforming cardiac rehabilitation by making it more accessible and effective for everyone. Recent findings from the EXIT-HF trial, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, highlight the tremendous potential of home-based cardiac rehabilitation (HBCR) as an alternative to traditional center-based programs, particularly for patients with heart failure.
The EXIT-HF study compared 12-week home-based and center-based cardiac rehabilitation programs, focusing on outcomes like cardiorespiratory fitness, quality of life, and physical performance. Both approaches were equally effective in improving these critical metrics. Importantly, the home-based program achieved comparable results with fewer supervised sessions (4 vs. 24) and greater flexibility for participants.
Patients in the HBCR group showed high adherence rates (84%) and were more likely to integrate walking into their daily routines than those in the center-based group. This underscores how HBCR empowers patients to take control of their health in a way that fits seamlessly into their lives.
Beyond its clinical effectiveness, HBCR addresses significant barriers that often prevent patients from participating in traditional programs. Challenges like transportation issues, scheduling conflicts, and limited access to facilities can discourage patients from seeking the care they need. By leveraging technology such as wearable devices and telehealth coaching, HBCR offers a solution that is not only convenient but also scalable across diverse populations. Studies have shown that HBCR can reduce mortality rates by 36% compared to no rehabilitation at all—an impactful statistic that highlights its life-saving potential.
At Recora, we embrace these findings as validation of our mission to bring cardiac rehabilitation into the comfort of your home. By combining personalized care plans with innovative technology, we aim to make heart health accessible to all. The EXIT-HF trial reinforces what we’ve long believed: home-based cardiac rehabilitation is a game-changer in expanding access to care and improving patient outcomes. Together, let’s make heart health a priority—wherever you are.
